Madisonville is 0-4 against Connally since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Madisonville Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Connally Cadets at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Madisonville put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Gatesville 46-7 at home. Madisonville pushed the score to 46-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Gatesville cut but never quite recovered from.
Lorenzo Johnson and Ty Williams were among the main playmakers for Madisonville as the former picked up 155 receiving yards and a touchdown and the latter threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt. Johnson hasn't dropped below 100 receiving yards for three straight games. Jakeithon Owens got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Connally fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They strolled past Salado with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 39-21. Given Connally's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Salado is ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Connally found their leader in underclassman Jamarion Vincent, who threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 passes.
Their wins bumped Madisonville to 7-1 and Connally to 5-3.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Madisonville has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 381.8 total yards per game. However, it's not like Connally struggles in that department as they've been even better at 408.2 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Madisonville was dealt a bruising 61-14 loss at the hands of Connally in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Madisonville, Jelani Mcdonald (who rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries, and also threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
