Wayne has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the West Point-Beemer Cadets on Thursday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact Wayne proved on Saturday. They snuck past O'Neill with a 46-40 victory.
Wayne can attribute much of their success to Frantzdie Barner, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Gubbels, who scored seven points.
West Point-Beemer can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They managed a 55-49 victory over Douglas County West. West Point-Beemer's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
West Point-Beemer can attribute much of their success to Mia Hunke, who scored nine points along with 15 rebounds, and Campbell Snodgrass, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Hunke set a new season high mark in steals with two. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Weborg, who scored 12 points.
Wayne's record now sits at 3-4. West Point-Beemer's record now sits at 2-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's matchup: Wayne have been dynamite from deep this season, having only nailed 31.1% of their threes per game. It's a different story for West Point-Beemer, though, as they've only made 32.4% of their threes per game this season. Given Wayne's sizeable advantage in that area, West Point-Beemer will need to find a way to close that gap.
Wayne strolled past West Point-Beemer when the teams last played back in January by a score of 42-28. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wayne since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
