Matty Cody made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Blacksburg's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-13 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Jakob Reid and Dayvon Garrison did most of the damage at the plate: Reid scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3, while Garrison scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Reid a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaison Hollifield, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Brashier Middle College Charter entered their tilt with Greenville Tech Charter on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Bengal, who have now won eight games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Blacksburg, Brashier Middle College Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Collin Wanger. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Wanger was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Brashier Middle College Charter got a massive performance out of Brandon Barber, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jason Staples, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Blacksburg's win bumped their record up to 3-14. As for Brashier Middle College Charter, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Blacksburg has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brashier Middle College Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
