AISA AA Region 1 recap September 24, 2013
Edgewood Academy added to the longest winning streak in AISA AA Region 1 this week by beating Glenwood, 47-14. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Wildcats.
Evangel Christian Academy was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from seventh to fifth in the league. The Lions beat Ashford Academy 25-7 earlier in the week.
Edgewood Academy's dynamic duo of Taylor Hawthorne and Heath Young proved to be unstoppable against the Gators, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Hawthorne threw for 224 yards and 4 touchdowns and Young had 113 yards receiving. Josh Crawford helped Edgewood Academy's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 34 yards.
Bobby Carr's team's dynamic duo of Hawthorne and Young proved tough for Glenwood to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Johnathan Wiley was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 155 yards as Evangel Christian Academy topped Jason Allen's team. Teammate David Davis added to the ground attack by rushing for 43 yards.
Hawthorne put up the best numbers through the air as Edgewood Academy beat the Gators.
Young was the best wideout in AISA AA Region 1 this week as the Wildcats defeated Glenwood.
Edgewood Academy's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Wildcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Hawthorne has thrown for 1,183 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Crawford has 24 catches for 365 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Edgewood Academy takes on second place Autauga Academy. Edgewood Academy bested the Gators last week, while Autauga Academy lost to Fort Dale Academy.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Generals take on the Wildcats. Autauga Academy has allowed 107 points this season, while Edgewood Academy has given up 97. Mike Sims' team allowed 55 points last week as it fell to the Eagles.
Springwood fell to Lee-Scott Academy 63-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Maurice Fears was a bright spot for the Wildcats, as he ran for 100 yards in the loss.
