2A District 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Springfield extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week by beating Northlake Christian, 30-12. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bulldogs.
Pine made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,902 from 10,707. The advance stemmed from a 51-8 victory over St. Helena Central last week.
The Wolverines' Josh O'Rear and Dane Landry have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. O'Rear has thrown for 1044 yards this season, while Landry, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 22 catches for 478 yards. The Raiders' Derrick Dillion leads the league in rushing yards with 1007.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Springfield takes on second place Aquinas. Last week, Springfield topped Northlake Christian, while Aquinas bested Pope John Paul II.
Pine led 2A District 8 in scoring this week after putting up 51 points on the Hawks. Dillion threw for 50 yards and ran for 138 yards in the win.
