Charlotte Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They suffered a rough 51-25 loss at the hands of Providence Day. While losing is never fun, Charlotte Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Providence Day is ranked 39th).
Despite the defeat, Charlotte Christian saw an underclassman step up: Kendal Beekman dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Cannon pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to Legacy Early College.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Madison Drayton, who scored 16 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Maya Mccorkle, who scored 14 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Charlotte Christian has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Cannon, their loss dropped their record down to 11-7.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy matchup: Charlotte Christian have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 18.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Cannon, though, as they've been averaging only 34 rebounds per game. Given Charlotte Christian's sizeable advantage in that area, Cannon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Charlotte Christian took a serious blow against Cannon in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 69-20. The match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Charlotte Christian was down 51-6.
