Brayden Skindelien made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other pitching news, Logan Swenson looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Nolan Johnson, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Rylan Shimek also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Meanwhile, Minnewaska Area has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.33 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They fell just short of Melrose by a score of 15-13. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (12), the Lakers still had to take the loss.
New London-Spicer's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Minnewaska Area, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
New London-Spicer was able to grind out a solid victory over Minnewaska Area when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
