The Hoover Huskies will square off against the Sissonville Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Sissonville will be up against a hot Hoover squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Huskies' pitchers stepped up to hand Ripley an 8-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Sadi Wehrle was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Katelyn Board was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Hoover hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Sissonville had no trouble coming through when it counted. They blew past Nicholas County 16-5 on Tuesday. 16 seems to be a good number for the Indians as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Makynli Berrier was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Allyson Jarrett, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Hoover pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Sissonville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-15.
Sissonville's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hoover has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. It's a different story for Sissonville, though, as they've been averaging 10.1 hits. Given Hoover's sizable advantage in that area, the Indians will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hoover took their win against Sissonville when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 8-1 score. Do the Huskies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
