The Voyager Academy Vikings will square off against the Pamlico County Hurricanes on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Voyager Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Cape Hatteras a 10-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for the Vikings as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Voyager Academy let Hayden Van Auken and Erich Junker run wild. Van Auken went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Junker went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Junker has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Adam Freiburger, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Voyager Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Hatteras only posted an OBP of .062.
Meanwhile, Pamlico County came tearing into Saturday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with an 11-1 victory.
Jeremiah Mitchell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pamlico County is 7-3 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Mitchell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Cam Daniels was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Pamlico County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Micheal Hodge was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Voyager Academy pushed their record up to 22-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pamlico County, their win bumped their record up to 13-11.
