Basketball Recap: Gilpin County Takes a Loss

Gilpin County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 28th straight loss dating back to last season. The contest between them and the North Park Wildcats didn't end well, with the Gilpin County Eagles falling 46-28. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 63-28 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Gilpin County lost, don't look at Ben Bushey. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on ten points and 20 boards. The dominant performance gave Bushey a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taurean Paxton, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

North Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Reyes, who put up 15 points along with seven boards and three steals. Reyes continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Gavin Pittington was another key player, putting up 11 points along with six rebounds and six steals.

Gilpin County's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for North Park, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.

Gilpin County will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Denver Academy at 6:00 p.m. Denver Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for North Park, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the North Park Wildcats take on the Hayden Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. North Park is facing Hayden at the right time seeing as Hayden is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
