Softball Game Preview: Avon Braves vs. Le Roy Oatkan Knights

The Avon Braves will venture away from home to face off against the Le Roy Oatkan Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Avon has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Avon fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Keshequa on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3. The Braves have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Jessie Crye was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 23 over 8.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Crye wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Payton Rice, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Le Roy and Pavilion meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Oatkan Knights came out on top against the Golden Gophers by a score of 6-1. The Oatkan Knights haven't had any issues with the Golden Gophers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

The loss was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 9-2. As for Le Roy, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Avon came out on top in a nail-biter against Le Roy in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
