Two dominant signal callers in COOPER NULL and Keimarion Wiggins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The La Vernia Bears will head out to face off against the Bay City Blackcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
La Vernia barely beat Calhoun the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bears blew past the Sandcrabs 38-3 on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Bears as they're now sitting on four straight.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Vernia to victory, but perhaps none more so than SEAN GARZA, who rushed for 57 yards and one score on only five carries. The Bears also got a significant boost from TY CARTER, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 100 yards.
Meanwhile, Bay City was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Floresville 35-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Blackcats' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Tigers/Jaguars are ranked 770th).
La Vernia better keep an eye on James Copeland. He was instrumental in Bay City's win, rushing for 249 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six carries. Those 249 rushing yards gave Copeland a new career-high. Isaac Stinson was another key player, picking up 104 receiving yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Bay City was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Bay City's defense and their four sacks. Floresville's QB won't forget Jordan Oneal anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Oneal is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last five games he's played.
La Vernia's record is now 5-1. As for Bay City, their record now sits at an identical 5-1.
La Vernia strolled past Bay City in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 42-24. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Blackcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
