After a string of four wins, the Calhoun County Saints's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Denmark-Olar, falling 70-17. Calhoun County has not had much luck with Denmark-Olar recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Calhoun County saw an underclassman step up: Cassidy Pough scored ten points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Pough hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games.
Aveion Walker was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds for Denmark-Olar. Walker is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ry'Naisha Barnes was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Calhoun County's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Denmark-Olar, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calhoun County won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lake Marion at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (Lake Marion is ranked 178th, while Calhoun County is ranked 169th). As for Denmark-Olar, they will head out on the road to face off against North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
