Volcano Vista has gone a perfect 10-0 against Cibola recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Hawks will host the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Volcano Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cleveland, who was ranked third at the time (Volcano Vista was ranked seventh). The Hawks took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Storm on Tuesday. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Storm recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Volcano Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alijah Romero, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Noah Massey was another, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cibola didn't have quite enough to beat Farmington on Tuesday and fell 11-10.
Jacob Escobedo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Cibola is 7-1 when Escobedo posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Daniel Kean, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs.
Volcano Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Cibola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Volcano Vista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Cibola struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
