The Dixie Flyers will take on the Snow Canyon Warriors at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixie is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.
Dixie is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Ridgeline. The result was nothing new for the Flyers, who have now won 13 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Weston Gilmore and Colton Hill did most of the damage at the plate: Gilmore got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, while Hill went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one double. That's the most runs Gilmore has posted since back in March. Carson Hunt was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Dixie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in eight consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Snow Canyon faced Bear River in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Warriors came out on top against the Bears by a score of 10-7. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Andrew Lyon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Lyon was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Snow Canyon let Trey Vaughn and Dewy Gibb run wild. Vaughn got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Gibb got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Cael Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Dixie's record is now 19-9. As for Snow Canyon, their record now sits at 21-6.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dixie hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Snow Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Dixie's way against Snow Canyon in their previous matchup back in March, as Dixie made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flyers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
