The Nantahala Hawks had to endure a 12-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Blue Ridge Early College by a score of 41-29 on Tuesday. The victory was just what Nantahala needed coming off of a 53-18 defeat in their prior match.
Nantahala was led to victory by Zoey Passmore and Delaney McLean. Passmore scored 14 points, while McLean scored 15 points.
Despite the loss, Blue Ridge Early College saw an underclassman step up: McKenzie Woods dropped a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Woods scored 15 or more points.
Even though they lost, Blue Ridge Early College smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 12 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Nantahala's win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-13. As for Blue Ridge Early College, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Nantahala will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hiwassee Dam at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Hiwassee Dam's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matchups. As for Blue Ridge Early College, they and Robbinsville will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Robbinsvillepresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Blue Ridge Early College in North Carolina (Robbinsville is ranked 243rd, while Blue Ridge Early College is ranked 588th).
