The Valley Center Jaguars struggled with assists on Friday (the Mt. Carmel Sundevils had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Valley Center lost to Mt. Carmel on the road by a decisive 71-52 margin. Valley Center has struggled against Mt. Carmel recently, as their contest on Friday was their ninth consecutive lost matchup.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carson Yoder, who scored 18 points along with three steals. Yoder hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Daniel Stehly, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Gianni Bernabe was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with seven assists for Mt. Carmel. Bernabe is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Raymond Hourani was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Valley Center's defeat dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Mt. Carmel, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 11-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Center will take on San Pasqual at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fallbrook at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fallbrook will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 808th, while Mt. Carmel is ranked 357th).
