The Rhea County Golden Eagles have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 46-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jackson County on Wednesday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Rhea County came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 28th, while Jackson County is ranked 145th).
Jackson County found their leader in underclassman Jalynn Meadows, who scored 22 points. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Williams, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Rhea County's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Jackson County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-3.
Rhea County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McMinn County at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Jackson County will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Van Buren County at 6:30 p.m. on December 20th.
