The Waverly Warriors will head out to take on the Dansville Aggies at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Waverly took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Fowlerville with a sharp 10-2 win.
Nevaeh Larner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Daniela Anzaldua, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one run. Bella Fernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Waverly always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fowlerville only posted an OBP of .241.
Meanwhile, Dansville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They blew past the Eagles 15-1.
Maddi Carter made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Carter was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Gabby Hollon was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Moore, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Waverly's record is now 7-4. As for Dansville, their record now sits at 11-3.
Waverly's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's matchup. The Warriors have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Dansville, though, as they've been averaging only 0.7 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Waverly continue to outrun the ball?
Everything went Waverly's way against Dansville in their previous meeting back in April of 2023, as Waverly made off with a 16-0 victory. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Aggies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
