Luling has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Great Hearts Northern Oaks Griffins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Luling will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1431st, while Great Hearts Northern Oaks is ranked 701st).
Luling suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 74-50 walloping at the hands of Nixon-Smiley. Luling has struggled against Nixon-Smiley recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Great Hearts Northern Oaks unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 60-47 to Cole. Great Hearts Northern Oaks was down 52-32 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the loss, Great Hearts Northern Oaks had strong showings from Ryan Matson, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds, and Caden Collins, who scored 17 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Matson has scored all season.
Luling has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-18 record this season. As for Great Hearts Northern Oaks, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11.
Luling didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Great Hearts Northern Oaks in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 65-61 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Luling since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
