Softball Recap: Payette Sets Scoring Season-High Against Melba

Payette scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 18-14 to the Melba Mustangs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Wednesday (11), the Pirates still had to take the loss.

Lucia Walker led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Walker, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Payette has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Melba, their win bumped their record up to 4-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payette will venture away from home to square off against Cole Valley Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Chargers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Melba, they will head out to challenge Nampa Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
