The Summers County Bobcats will square off against the Greenbrier East Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Summers County will be strutting in after a win while Greenbrier East will be coming in after a defeat.
Summers County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Braxton County, who was ranked 21st at the time (Summers County was ranked 24th). Summers County walked away with a 10-6 victory over Braxton County on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
Colten Jones made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Summers County got a big performance out of Grady Allen, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Allen has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cody Snavely, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.
Summers County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier East didn't have quite enough to beat Spring Valley on Saturday and fell 8-7. The Spartans have struggled against the Timberwolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Ashton Cochran was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Detko, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
The win got Summers County back to even at 3-3-1. As for Greenbrier East, their loss dropped their record down to 5-2.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Summers County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317.
