Millersport barely beat Berne Union the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lakers put the hurt on the Rockets with a sharp 16-5 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Lakers have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kendyl Bonkowski made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Millersport let Claire Haney and Ginny Worstall run wild. Haney went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Worstall scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those two doubles gave Haney a new career-high. Ava Blevins was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Millersport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Berne Union only posted a batting average of .320.
The win (which was Millersport's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Berne Union, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.
