There's no place like home for the Coahoma County Red Panthers, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Friday. They took down Grenada 53-36 on Tuesday. Given Coahoma County's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Grenada is ranked 142nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Coahoma County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Caleb Hearns, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds. Hearns continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Harlem Bell, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists.
Despite the loss, Grenada still got an impressive performance from Jarques Perry, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. The matchup was Perry's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Kelton Jones was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Coahoma County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for Grenada, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-11.
Coahoma County will challenge Rosa Fort at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rosa Fort has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 17. As for Grenada, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against South Panola at 7:30 p.m. South Panola has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 28.
