Baseball Recap: Red Bud Has No Trouble Against Sparta

Red Bud came out on top against Sparta on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Musketeers put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 7-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Musketeers, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Trent Sternberg was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Lucas Schwartzkopf was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Derrick Whelan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Red Bud is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Sparta, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Red Bud will take on Waterloo at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sparta, they will square off against Frankfort at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
