Baseball Recap: Memphis Central Has No Trouble Against Melrose

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Memphis Central). They were the clear victor by a 19-2 margin over the Melrose Golden Wildcats on Tuesday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Golden Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Evan Nelson made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Tyler Yates was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Beiker Leon was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Memphis Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .368 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Memphis Central's record is now 3-1. As for Melrose, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Memphis Central will take on Lakeland Preparatory at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lakeland Preparatory will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Memphis Central surely won't give up without a fight. As for Melrose, they will face off against Raleigh-Egypt at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
