Two dominant backs in Dylan Riley and Brice Hawkins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Rancho Verde Mustangs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Simi Valley Pioneers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
After a string of five wins, Rancho Verde's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 35-27 to Orange Vista.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Riley, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown. Riley really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Amarion Orange, who picked up 97 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Simi Valley's recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 27-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bishop Diego.
The losing side was boosted by Hawkins, who rushed for 143 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also picked up 35 receiving yards.
Rancho Verde's defeat dropped their record down to 8-2. As for Simi Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Rancho Verde has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 256.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Simi Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 160.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
