The West Jefferson Buccaneers were the 73-21 winner over the Riverdale Rebels when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. West Jefferson fell 53-42 to Riverdale on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, West Jefferson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 338th, while Riverdale is ranked 124th).
West Jefferson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kellie Cyprian, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Cyprian scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coye McClairen, who scored 13 points.
Riverdale got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mazie Parmley out in front who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Parmley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Jaeshaunie Martin was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
West Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Riverdale, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. As for Riverdale, they will be playing at home against West St. John at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
