Softball Recap: Southwestern Finds Home Field Redemption Against Wayne County

There's no place like home for Southwestern, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They blew past the Wayne County Cardinals 13-6 on Monday. Considering the Warriors have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Macie Gwin was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoie Lowery, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Southwestern's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Wayne County, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-6.

Looking ahead, Wayne County will challenge Pickett County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwestern will be paying especially close attention to the Cardinals' game: after the Cardinals face off against the Bobcats, they'll take on Southwestern again at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
