If the Scottsboro Wildcats were feeling good off their 79-48 takedown of the Elmore County Panthers on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Scottsboro was dealt a 82-53 loss at the hands of Baker on Friday. While losing is never fun, Scottsboro can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while Baker is ranked 17th).
Baker's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dashawn Thomas, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. The match was Thomas' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Florence lll, who scored 15 points.
Scottsboro's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Baker, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
Scottsboro will finish 2023 at home by hosting Prattville at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Prattville is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses. Baker and Vestavia Hills will face off at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Vestavia Hills is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
