Tavares' lone touchdown came on a 35-yard pass from Christian Sears to McCants in the first quarter.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 32-10 win for Lake Nona.
The defeat comes as a step back for Tavares, which notched a 21-6 victory over Poinciana in its previous outing. The victory was a step in the right direction for LN, which was coming off a 23-0 defeat at the hands of Lake Minneola in its previous game. The loss snapped THS's 2-game winning streak.
Tavares (2-3) will play a non-conference game against First Academy next week, while Lake Nona (3-2) will take on Celebration in a 5A District 7 game.
