Franklin is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to square off against the Sheldon Huskies at 4:00 p.m. Franklin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Franklin is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since February 13th on Wednesday. They came up short against McClatchy, falling 8-1. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Wildcats couldn't push the score so high this time.
Franklin saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Natalie Tucker, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Sheldon not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18, 2025 (when they won 18-0). Everything went their way against Monterey Trail as they made off with a 17-0 victory. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kwinci Brown was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Angelina Guzman was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2025. Sinitalela Heleta was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Sheldon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Sheldon's record now sits at 5-3. As for Franklin, they moved to 8-5 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Sheldon struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Franklin was able to grind out a solid win over Sheldon when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 4-0. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
