The Columbine Rebels were the 54-49 winner over the Grandview Wolves when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Columbine fell 65-53 to Grandview on Monday. While losing is never fun, Columbine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while Grandview is ranked 103rd).
Columbine's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Burkhalter, who scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Burkhalter has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Boykin, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Alex Riddick had a dynamite game for Grandview, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 15 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Riddick scored 15 or more points. Breven Anderson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five assists.
Columbine's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Grandview, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbine will square off against Arvada West at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Arvada West's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Columbine has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. As for Grandview, they will square off against Mullen at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Allowing an average of 54.4 points per game, Mullen has struggled on the defensive end, but that doesn't have to be the case in this contest.
