If the North Stanly Comets were feeling good off their 45-23 takedown of the Mount Pleasant Tigers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. North Stanly received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 61-42 to Albemarle. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for North Stanly in their matchups with Albemarle: they've now lost three in a row.
When it comes to explaining why North Stanly lost, one person who can't be blamed is Shalyn Bell. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 rebounds. That was a full 42.9% of North Stanly's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Shy'Mani Baskins, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Albemarle's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Amari Baldwin, who scored 25 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Baldwin is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasmine Brown, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
North Stanly's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-2. As for Albemarle, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
