Baseball Recap: Hazelwood Central Wins Going Away Against Mccluer

While Hazelwood Central didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past the McCluer Comets 8-1 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won four games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Mekhi Maclin and Jace Dickson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Maclin didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Dickson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Hazelwood Central is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-2 otherwise. At the plate, Maclin went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double, while Dickson scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Dickson is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, John Shelton and Julius Reed did most of the damage at the plate: Shelton scored a run and stole four bases while going 3-for-4, while Reed scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Shelton has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Hazelwood Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Hazelwood Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hazelwood Central will challenge McCluer North at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for McCluer, they will square off against Gateway Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
