4A District 2 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Mannford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from seventh to fifth in 4A District 2. The Pirates vanquished Santa Fe South 47-0 earlier in the week.
Ada extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Harrah, 68-27. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Cougars.
Christopher High was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 210 yards on 12 carries as Douglass fell to Douglass. Teammate Aaron McKinney added to the ground attack by rushing for 110 yards.
Olds was the best wideout in 4A District 2 this week as the Redskins fell to the Trojans. Olds tallied three receptions for 49 yards. Klayton Adams helped McLoud's passing attack out by catching two balls for 45 yards.
Adams made the biggest impact on defense this week as McLoud lost to Douglass. The 5-foot-10 senior recorded one fumble.
Joseph Wood provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Eric Cardin's team fell to Willis Alexander's team. He completed 13 passes for 181 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 40 yards.
Luke May put up the best numbers through the air as Mannford beat the Saints. He finished with six completions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. May's favorite target this week was Blane Hopkins, who caught two passes for 35 yards.
The Redskins' Wood and Zaylon Mahtapene have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Wood has thrown for 1149 yards this season, while Mahtapene, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 26 catches for 448 yards. High from the Trojans leads the league in rushing with 1150 yards.
Douglass' Chavez Wyatt needs only 80 yards against the Panthers next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 88 carries Wyatt has accumulated 920 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Ada takes on McLoud. Matt Weber's team is currently in first, while the Redskins are in third.
The Cougars led the league in scoring this week after putting up 68 points on Harrah.
