Jemez Valley is 0-4 against Legacy Academy since January of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Jemez Valley Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Legacy Academy Silverbacks at 5:00 p.m.
Jemez Valley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were beaten by Mesa Vista 74-33. While losing is never fun, Jemez Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Mesa Vista is ranked 49th).
Meanwhile, Legacy Academy had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They took down Evangel Christian Academy/Oak Grove Classical Academy 72-53.
Legacy Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Daniel Tavarez, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tavarez has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaevion Scales, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Jemez Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Legacy Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-5 record this season.
Jemez Valley was dealt a bruising 83-19 loss at the hands of Legacy Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2023. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Jemez Valley was down 40-12.
