Yuma Catholic is a perfect 10-0 against Tonopah Valley since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Shamrocks will host the Phoenix at 3:45 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Yuma Catholic has six straight victories, Tonopah Valley has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Yuma Catholic took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Valley Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Shamrocks skirted past the Trojans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Shamrocks have posted since March 19th.
Cherish Trujillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Faith Donley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassandra Reynoso, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Tonopah Valley lost 25-9 to Parker on Saturday.
Ellie Procunier was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Shiloh Walker, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.
Yuma Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 20-4. As for Tonopah Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Yuma Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. However, it's not like Tonopah Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .430. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Yuma Catholic's way against Tonopah Valley when the teams last played back in March, as Yuma Catholic made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Shamrocks repeat their success, or do the Phoenix have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
