The Lawrence County Red Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Austin Black Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lawrence County is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
On Thursday, Lawrence County made easy work of West Morgan and carried off a 9-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Raegan Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, AB McKay was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Templeton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Austin suffered their biggest defeat since April 8th on Saturday. They came up short against Oakland, falling 11-1. The Black Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Austin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arden Breedlove, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Lawrence County pushed their record up to 36-10-1 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Austin, their loss dropped their record down to 31-14-1.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lawrence County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Austin struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lawrence County beat Austin 4-1 in their previous meeting back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
