Marine Leadership Academy had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wells Raiders an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The victory was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on four straight dating back to last season.
Nathan Baez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Baez was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Nathan Vargas was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Marine Leadership Academy is set to square off against their familiar foe Collins at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Wells will take on rival Clark at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
