Two dominant signal callers in Judson Keefer and Cash Williams are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Putnam City Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Choctaw Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Thursday, Putnam City was fully in charge, breezing past Putnam City North 56-20 at home. Putnam City pushed the score to 35-0 by the end of the third, a deficit Putnam City North had no chance of recovering from.
Keefer was on fire: he threw for 391 yards and five touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also caught a touchdown. Keefer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Davien Taylor was in the mix too, providing Putnam City with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Putnam City's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Putnam City North's QB won't forget Michael Exum anytime soon given Exum sacked him four times.
Meanwhile, Choctaw took their match on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 58-6 win over Lawton. Given Choctaw's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while Lawton is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mayor Morgan and Williams were among the main playmakers for Choctaw as the former rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns and the latter threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Smith, who gained 59 total yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Putnam City to 3-5 and Choctaw to 5-1.
Putnam City was dealt a bruising 37-6 defeat at the hands of Choctaw when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Putnam City avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
