Big North - National recap Sept. 26, 2012
Lakeland Regional made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 2,134 from 3,263. The improvement came about via a 31-8 victory over Teaneck last week.
Northern Valley led Big North - National in scoring this week after putting up 41 points on West Milford.
The Lancers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cory Caddell threw for 184 and one touchdown and Kyle Allegrini had 124 yards receiving. On the ground David Shellhammer chipped in 170 yards. Joseph Jordan helped Lakeland Regional's passing attack out by catching three balls for 48 yards.
On the ground, Lakeland Regional's Shellhammer has rushed for 371 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Allegrini. The Lakeland Regional star has seven catches for 148 yards.
Next week's game between Northern Valley Regional and Bill Weigel's team will feature a tantalizing aerial matchup as Blake Geller tests his arm against Allegrini's defensive ability. For the year, the Norsemen's Geller has managed 412 yards and four touchdowns, while Allegrini has one interceptions for the Lancers.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Northern Valley Regional takes on Lakeland Regional. Tony Mottola's team is currently in third, while the Lancers are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Norsemen and Lakeland Regional face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Northern Valley Regional comes in having scored 61 this season, while the Lancers have scored 97. The Norsemen scored 7 points last week as they lost to Paramus Catholic.
