Basketball Recap: Apex Drops Highest Score of Season Against Green Hope

Apex scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. The matchup between them and the Green Hope Falcons didn't end well, with the Apex Cougars falling 61-44. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 483rd, while the Falcons are ranked 169th).

Apex's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jordan Mele, who posted eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Finley Heath, who scored eight points.

Abigail Brown was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 39 points and 13 rebounds for Green Hope. That makes it five consecutive games in which Brown has scored at least a third of Green Hope's points. Chloe Lee was another key player, putting up five points.

Apex's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Green Hope, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

Apex has already played their next contest (against Holly Springs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Green Hope is taking a road trip to take on Cary at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Green Hope knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Cary likes a good challenge.
