If the Ruskin Golden Eagles were riding high off their 79-37 takedown of the Excelsior Springs Tigers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ruskin was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 69-68 to Smithville. Ruskin was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Smithville apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Austin Weinzerl was his usual excellent self, scoring 29 points along with five rebounds for Smithville. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Shaffer, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Ruskin's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Smithville, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.
Ruskin will be playing in front of their home fans against Raytown South at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Raytown Southpresents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Ruskin in Missouri (Raytown South is ranked 172nd, while Ruskin is ranked 368th). As for Smithville, they will head out on the road to challenge Kearney at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
