The Velma Jackson Falcons put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat French Camp Academy 73-7 at home. Fans of Velma Jackson have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Gavin Griffin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 179 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries, while also picking up 36 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrelle Smith, who threw for 176 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 passes.
The team's defense also helped out by holding French Camp Academy to a paltry 142 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Velma Jackson's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Tyshun Willis and his three sacks.
When it comes to explaining why French Camp Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Silas Hodge. Despite the final result, he rushed for 96 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
Velma Jackson's victory was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 8-0. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 48 points. As for French Camp Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.
Velma Jackson will take on Nanih Waiya at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Nanih Waiya will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings (they are ranked 228th, while Velma Jackson is ranked 50th). As for French Camp Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against McAdams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. McAdams has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since September first.
