Even though Weatherly scored an imposing 62 points on Wednesday, the Tri-Valley Bulldogs still came out on top. Tri-Valley took their game against Weatherly 71-62. Given Tri-Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 144th, while Weatherly is ranked 646th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tri-Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Porter, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Porter has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Layne Yoder, who scored 20 points along with five steals.
Weatherly's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ian Mckeegan, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and three steals. Niko Saldukas was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds.
Even though they lost, Weatherly were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. This was only their tenth loss (out of 12 games) when they've passed the ball that well.
Tri-Valley's win bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Weatherly, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-13.
Tri-Valley and Schuylkill Haven will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Schuylkill Haven has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 409 points over their last six matches. As for Weatherly, they will be playing at home against Mahanoy Area at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mahanoy Area is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
