Coventry extended their winning streak to 11 on Friday, bumping them up to 12-1. They blew past the Stafford Bulldogs 7-1. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Dominic DeAngelis and Kyle Hecht were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, DeAngelis tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hecht didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. DeAngelis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. At bat, DeAngelis went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Hecht went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Matteo Albano was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Jack Siena was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
As for Stafford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat they have suffered since April 4th.
Like Coventry, Stafford also got a great game from a pair of two-way players: Colin Leone. Throwing, Leone pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Player #25 struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. At the plate, Leone went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Player #25 went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Tyler Murray made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Stafford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
Coventry wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 10-0 win against Canton on the 11th. As for Stafford, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-0 loss against Bolton on the 11th.
