The Poquoson Islanders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 11th straight defeat. They fell to Bruton 54-48. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Poquoson in their matchups with Bruton: they've now lost six in a row.
Poquoson lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dayne Galacgac, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Khaleo Smith, who scored eight points.
Brandon Freeman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bruton, scoring 20 points along with five assists and three steals. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games he's played. Khamani Phillips was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Poquoson dropped their record down to 1-18 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Bruton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Poquoson will take on New Kent at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Kent presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Poquoson in Virginia (New Kent is ranked 90th, while Poquoson is ranked 371st). As for Bruton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lafayette at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lafayette will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Bruton surely won't give up without a fight.
