It was a good run, but the Boca Ciega Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Clearwater on the road and fell 81-31. Boca Ciega was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-20.
Despite the loss, Boca Ciega had strong showings from Jacquavia Ferguson, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Maria Ciro, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Boca Ciega struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Clearwater pulled down 17 offensive rebounds.
Clearwater's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Pink Sturdivant led the charge by dropping a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Quenya Turner, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Boca Ciega now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Clearwater, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Boca Ciega will head out on the road to take on Northeast at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Northeast is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home. As for Clearwater, they will square off against Flagler Palm Coast at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
