Freeport hasn't had much luck against Hononegah recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pretzels will welcome the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Freeport turned things around against Rockford Auburn on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Knights.
Diem Beach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Quinn Krzeminiski was incredible, firing off two home runs and three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Hononegah had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Heat a 12-0 shutout. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Zoie Calhoun made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Hononegah got a big performance out of Kaelyn Kelly, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Peyton Klikno, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Hononegah's victory bumped their record up to 20-3. As for Freeport, their win bumped their record up to 7-20.
